interview

22 Nov, 2022

Name: Inonge Mubita

Age: 35

Years practising: 2 years professionally and 5 years voluntarily Speciality: Life Coaching, Relationship Issues and Grief and Loss Please describe yourself in 50 words or less.

I have been told that I have a good sense of humour, I laugh and smile a lot, and I enjoy making people laugh with my jokes or funny dancing. I have a charismatic personality and you will always find me trying to create opportunities for others to thrive. I am also a Christian and I try to spread love to people through anything daily, be it through a compliment or just saying "Hello" to a stranger. What is a hobby you love to do in your spare time?

I love to cook and I'm an avid motorcyclist!

Why did you choose this career path?

Well, I would say I accidentally stumbled into this career without much thought really. I have always worked in sectors that help solve people's issues in some form and capacity, from social work to customer service, from pastoral care to life coaching. Becoming a therapist wasn't a hard choice as I love working with people and I was already doing it only this time around, I wanted to do more of it professionally and I wanted to study and gain more knowledge on how to help people more effectively. So I studied for a Master of Counselling.

Tell me about one experience which has kept you doing what you’re doing.

I once worked with a young girl who had no self-esteem, she couldn't be in crowded places or hang out with people. She also had social anxiety, by the time we were done with the sessions, she was already giving presentations to a 100s of people and she became so active on social impacting lots of people positively.

What is one piece of general advice that you would give to a client starting out their mental health journey?

We are all on a journey. Your therapist is also on his or her on a journey. Don't feel intimidated by the therapist's credentials. Therapists are humans too, share your story and they will understand and do the journey with you. Also, there is no small or bigger issue you can bring to the therapy room. Your challenge is valid.

If you weren’t doing what you were doing, what career would you have pursued?

I would be a psychologist, so, really, I will be doing the same thing. But, I did want to be a journalist or air hostess when I was growing up.

What is one item in your fridge that would surprise us?

Hahaha! I love my Caviar (I don't think this would surprise you though).

Is there anything about you that you would like clients who are reading to know?

I have a cheerful personality and I will connect with anyone almost instantly!
