Strengthening Fatherhood: Our Exciting Collaboration with Dads Group

29 Mar, 2023

We are incredibly proud to announce our collaboration with Dads Group, an inspiring not-for-profit organisation that has been doing phenomenal work in supporting Australian fathers. This partnership will enable us to provide much-needed mental health support to new dads all over the country, helping them navigate the rollercoaster ride that is fatherhood. We would like to share some details about this exciting collaboration and the incredible impact Dads Group has been making.

20% of dads felt that they did not have enough emotional support during their partner's pregnancy

Dads Group was founded with the mission to create a positive and inclusive community where fathers can connect, share experiences, and support one another. They have been organising various events, meet-ups, and workshops across Australia, enabling fathers to discuss the challenges and joys of fatherhood in a judgment-free environment. By promoting fatherhood's essential role, Dads Group has contributed to better family dynamics and the overall well-being of children.

The challenges that fathers face are more significant than ever, as recent Australian statistics reveal. According to the Australian Institute of Family Studies, nearly 23% of fathers have reported experiencing emotional or mental health issues. Moreover, 20% of dads felt that they did not have enough emotional support during their partner's pregnancy and following the birth of their child. These statistics highlight the critical need for targeted mental health support and resources for fathers.

In addition to this an increasing number of Australian men are taking on a more significant share of child-rearing responsibilities. Yet, they are now experiencing the same workplace bias that women have been combating for many years. Watch this segment from The Project where Dads Group founder, Thomas Dock, discusses the discrimination fathers can face in the workplace.

Recognising the importance of addressing these challenges, Talked and Dads Group have joined forces to create a powerful and comprehensive support system for fathers. Our collaboration aims to ensure that dads have access to the emotional and mental health resources they need while continuing to foster connections with other fathers.

As part of this partnership, Talked will offer free online therapy sessions tailored to the unique needs of dads, focusing on issues such as anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. These therapy sessions will lower the barrier for entry and help to entice dads who may be sitting on the fence about talking with a therapist.

We will be working closely with Dads Group on their mission of changing the culture of fatherhood for the better. We look forward to keeping you updated on the incredible work that Dads Group is doing and the impact of our collaboration. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of fathers and families across Australia.
